Bayelsa Guber: I am still eligible to contest – Sylva

Timipre Sylva

A former Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has argued that he is still qualified to contest for the office of governor of the state.

Sylvia stated this in Yenogoa during an interactive session with some journalists on Friday evening to shed light on his position in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, urging the people of the state not to be unduly bothered as the decision to contest is largely dependent on the leadership of the APC.
He said: “Bayelsa people should not be worried about whether I run or not. What they should be worried about is whether the APC is fielding a candidate or not. It is not about me. It is about the APC.
The former governor also picked holes in the way people have been according the status of hero of democracy on former President, Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat in the last presidential election, adding that Jonathan’s attempts to scuttle the election disqualified him from benefiting from such heroic status.

Sylva said: “For me, conceding defeat is not an achievement. Let us take a look at the event, they tried everything to subvert and thwart.”
